St Mary’s Oratory: 10.00am Farewell & Welcome FR PADDY DOHERTY has been appointed Parish Priest of Maghera. Fr Doherty came here in 2009 and has served Glendermott and Strathfoyle with the utmost dedication. We thank him sincerely for his tireless work and for his visionary approach to our parish. We are immensely grateful for his kindness, his patience and his constant availability to every one of us. Induction: Fr Doherty will be inducted as Parish Priest in St Patrick’s Church, Glen, next Sunday (28th August), at 9:30am. All welcome. FR MICHAEL CANNY, Administrator of St Eugene’s Cathedral, has been appointed Parish Priest of Glendermott and Strathfoyle. Induction: Fr Canny will be inducted as Parish Priest during the Vigil Mass in St Columb’s Church, Chapel Road next Saturday (27th August), at 7:30pm. All welcome. FR PAUL FARREN has been appointed Administrator of St Eugene’s Cathedral. Fr Farren came here in 2010 as Priest-in-Residence. Although his principal assignment was overseeing the catechetics of the diocese, he gave very generously of himself to our parish in celebrating the sacraments. We thank him sincerely for his great assistance during the last year and wish him well in his new assignment. We say thanks and farewell to Fr Doherty and Fr Farren. May the Good Shepherd guide them in their new pastures and grant them every blessing in their ministry. We assure them of our ongoing prayers. We extend a warm welcome to Fr Canny as he returns to the parish as our new pastor. THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION – Monday 15th August 2011 Monday is the Feast of the Assumption and is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated as follows: St Columb’s Church: 10.00am and 7.30pm. Church of the Immaculate Conception: 10.30am and 6.00pm. St Marys’ Oratory: 10.00am St Oliver Plunkett: 11.15am and 6.00pm THE SEASON OF LENT 2011 This week sees the beginning of the Season of Lent, starting on Wednesday, 9th March with the distribution of Ashes at all Masses in the parish. Ash Wednesday is also a day of Fast and Abstinence. Mass times for Ash Wednesday: St Columb’s Church: 7.45am; 10.00am & 7.30pm. Church of Immaculate Conception: 9.15am & 6.00pm. St Mary’s Oratory: 10.00am. St Oliver Plunkett Church: 9.15am. PLEASE NOTE: Service times for the Lenten Season include morning Mass in St Columb’s Church at 7.45am. Trocaire Boxes will be distributed in the coming week. They are available at the back of the churches in the parish. Walk with Me, a Lenten Prayer Book of reflection for each day during Lent, is available in the churches of the parish. Masses on Monday and Tuesday at the usual times.
